Ariana Grande has once again criticized the Trump administration for using her music in a social media post. This time, the Team Trump TikTok account featured her song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” in a video tagging the Grammy-winning artist.
The video, uploaded Thursday, shows President Trump approaching a podium to speak, with text referencing Grande’s 2024 track. Grande responded in the comments, stating, “Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false.”
The sound has been removed from the post, and Grande’s comment has seemingly been taken down, although screenshots of it have circulated online. This incident follows Grande’s previous objection in mid-June when her song “Bye” was used in a TikTok video about immigration policy.
Grande joins a long list of artists, including Taylor Swift and ABBA, who have objected to the Trump team using their music. Various artists, such as Neil Young, John Fogerty, Queen, the Rolling Stones, ABBA, Beyoncé, and others, have voiced their disapproval of Trump’s use of their music over the years.
Some artists have taken legal action, issuing cease and desist orders or filing lawsuits. Swift and Bad Bunny have reportedly had their music removed from Team Trump’s social videos through copyright infringement claims. While campaigns can obtain licensing to use music legally, individual artists have the right to opt out for personal reasons.
