Passenger Recounts Terrifying Encounter During Huntingdon Train Stabbing Incident
A traveler aboard the train involved in the recent mass stabbing in Huntingdon has shared his harrowing experience, disclosing that initial fears among passengers included concerns that the assailant might be armed with a firearm.
The man, who chose to maintain anonymity, had missed his intended train after attending a Nottingham Forest football match, prompting him to board the service bound for King’s Cross.
As he settled in for the journey, engrossed in music playing through his noise-cancelling headphones and messaging friends about an upcoming party, the tranquility was abruptly shattered when panicked passengers from the front carriage rushed into his section.
Describing the chilling moment, he recounted, “Initially, I thought it was a Halloween prank or joke. However, as I observed their panic-stricken expressions, I noticed an individual covered in blood.”
Realizing the gravity of the situation, he swiftly made the decision to move away from the commotion, remarking, “I quickly grasped the need to exit the area and proceeded to follow the others through the train.”
Contrary to initial concerns of a firearm, it was later clarified by reports that there was no presence of a gun, easing some of the tension among the passengers.
Offering new insights into one of the attackers, he detailed encountering a tall Black male in his early 30s, exhibiting a menacing demeanor while wielding a bloodied kitchen knife as he advanced through the carriages.
Despite the train’s moving status, uncertainty loomed over how far they could traverse to evade the aggressor before reaching the train’s rear end.
Upon arriving at Huntingdon, a brief sense of relief engulfed the passengers momentarily before the realization dawned that the threat persisted, keeping them on edge.
Recalling acts of heroism amid the chaos, the passenger highlighted the courage displayed by a young man in his 20s who stepped forward to aid one of the victims of the attackers.
Following the traumatic event, the passenger found solace in the kindness of a local resident at the railway station, offering hospitality while he awaited a friend’s arrival from London.
British Transport Police confirmed that 11 individuals received medical treatment, with two remaining in critical condition. Authorities arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder, a 32-year-old Black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent.
Superintendent John Loveless clarified that the incident is currently not classified as a terrorist act.
