Five individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the tragic death of Robert De Niro’s grandson, who passed away two years ago in their New York residence. Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, 19 at the time of his demise, was discovered in the family’s Cipriani Club Residence apartment on Wall Street in New York on July 2, 2023. The New York City medical examiner’s office determined that De Niro-Rodriguez succumbed to an accidental drug overdose. Subsequently, on October 30, five suspects were apprehended on drug-related charges linked to the incident.
Allegations suggest that the arrested individuals were part of an illicit network responsible for distributing counterfeit prescription opioid pills laced with fentanyl and other substances to young adults and teenagers in New York. Reports indicate that these defendants provided tainted pills to three 19-year-olds, resulting in fatalities, including De Niro-Rodriguez and Akira Stein, the daughter of musician Chris Stein from Blondie, who tragically passed away two months before De Niro’s grandson.
Furthermore, another woman has been arrested in connection with De Niro-Rodriguez’s death, bringing the total number of arrests to six. Sofia Haley Marks stands accused of selling him the laced drugs a day prior to his demise and has been charged with federal drug distribution. Following her son’s untimely death, Drena De Niro asserted that the pills sold to him were knowingly laced with fentanyl. According to reports, De Niro-Rodriguez was found unconscious in a chair at his family’s apartment by a friend who became concerned after not hearing from him in several days.
