A tragic incident unfolded as a young British head chef on a superyacht lost his life by drowning after accidentally falling into the water at a French port following a night out with colleagues. Flinn Sessions, a 22-year-old from Wimborne, Dorset, had been part of the crew on the Atlantico for two months before the unfortunate event occurred while the yacht was docked at La Ciotat near Marseille on June 9, 2023.
During an inquest at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court, it was revealed that Flinn had been socializing with crew members and other yacht workers, visiting various bars and consuming alcohol before the incident. CCTV footage captured Flinn leaning against a bollard on the quayside in the early hours of the morning before he slipped into the water and was later found lifeless. Post-mortem examinations in both France and the UK confirmed that Flinn had drowned.
Coroner Brendan Allen, concluding that Flinn’s death was accidental, emphasized that the CCTV footage showed Flinn alone at the time of the fall, indicating no signs of ill health or intentional harm. The tragic incident was attributed to the excessive alcohol consumption during the night out, leading to the fatal accident.
