A tragic incident occurred where a young woman passed away due to alleged medical negligence involving a surgical bandage left inside her abdomen after childbirth. Jyoti Pal, 26, underwent a Caesarean section at a private hospital in January, during which a bandage was reportedly left inside her abdomen. Despite initially seeming to recover well, Jyoti started experiencing severe abdominal pain just days after giving birth, prompting a return to the hospital for further evaluation.
Her husband, Prajjwal Pal, recalled the situation, mentioning that doctors at the initial hospital could not determine the cause of her suffering. Subsequently, Jyoti’s condition worsened, and she was taken to another hospital where the hidden bandage was discovered, leading to a severe infection. Despite receiving treatment, Jyoti succumbed to the illness.
Following the tragic incident, Jyoti’s grieving husband filed a complaint against the Dehradun hospital and the medical professionals involved in the Caesarean section. City authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, as confirmed by officials on October 22, following an order for a probe into the alleged negligence on October 21.
According to reports, an ultrasound and computed tomography scan at the second hospital revealed the presence of the bandage in Jyoti’s abdomen. The Chief Medical Officer of the district emphasized the need to investigate the hospital where the delivery took place and the circumstances that led to the overlooked bandage causing such a serious infection.
The hospital, which reportedly did not respond to inquiries, has been closed pending the investigation. A committee led by the Chief Medical Officer will further investigate Jyoti’s death, awaiting the post-mortem report and preparing to present its findings soon.
