Samsung TV owners in the UK are in for a significant upgrade as UKTV announces the arrival of its free-to-air linear channels on Samsung screens. This enhancement will allow viewers in the UK to access bonus content without the need for extra devices, marking the first time these channels will be available directly on Samsung TVs.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. Samsung will also introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without navigating through menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, channels like U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden will be accessible through a direct link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. This expansion will reach millions of Samsung TVs, featuring the channels in the ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide to highlight UKTV’s live and on-demand content for viewers who rely on internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV, expressed enthusiasm about the strengthened partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility of the U app for Samsung customers. Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted UKTV’s vital role in enriching the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs and emphasized the commitment to delivering a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem through partnerships like this one.
While an official launch date has not been disclosed, these new features are expected to roll out on Samsung TVs soon, promising an improved viewing experience for users.
