A 15-hour weather warning has been issued for certain regions of the UK due to the expected arrival of strong winds on Thursday. The Met Office has issued three separate yellow weather alerts for different parts of England and Wales, starting at midnight, 4am, and 9am respectively.
According to a spokesperson from the Met Office, a deepening low-pressure system is set to move across southeast Britain on Thursday, eventually clearing into the North Sea by the evening. This movement will bring about increased winds, especially strong northwesterly winds along the east coast.
Wind gusts ranging from 45-55 mph are anticipated across a broad area, with potential for 65 mph gusts near coastal areas. In certain circumstances, if the low-pressure system intensifies further, localized gusts of 65-75 mph could occur, particularly in late morning and afternoon.
Residents are advised to take precautions to safeguard their property and well-being. Securing loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences is recommended. To minimize disruptions, individuals should check road conditions, public transportation schedules, and adjust travel plans accordingly.
Preparation for power outages is also advised, including gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. Individuals residing near the coast are urged to be cautious during stormy weather, especially regarding large waves that can pose risks even from the shore.
For safety during emergencies, individuals walking near cliffs are advised to stay informed about their surroundings and keep dogs on a leash. In case of an emergency, contacting the Coastguard at 999 is recommended.
