“Thailand Mourns: Queen Sirikit, Mother of King, Dies at 93”

A cherished member of a prominent Royal family has passed away at 93 due to a severe blood infection.

Sirikit, the former Queen of Thailand and mother to King Vajiralongkorn, the current monarch, died on October 24. She was not only the mother of the reigning king but also the wife of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest-serving monarch in Thailand’s history.

The couple’s marriage lasted an impressive 66 years, establishing them as one of the longest-married Royal pairs in history, comparable to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The news of her passing has deeply affected the nation, with the populace mourning the loss of their beloved queen.

The Thai Royal family confirmed Sirikit’s demise, causing immense shock as the monarchy enjoyed widespread popularity. Sirikit’s portraits adorn homes and public buildings across the country, symbolizing the monarchy’s perceived divine right to govern.

According to reports from Al Arabiya, the palace disclosed that Queen Sirikit had been battling various illnesses since her hospitalization in 2019. Her health deteriorated after a recent blood infection, leading to her passing at the age of 93 at Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Known for her influence in Thai fashion and philanthropic efforts aiding the less fortunate, Sirikit was a prominent figure during her lengthy reign as queen.

She drew comparisons to Western icons like Jackie Kennedy and Princess Diana, reflecting her global impact and stature.

The Thai populace is reeling from the news, questioning how the nation will navigate without her guidance and presence.

A housekeeper, Sasis Putthasit, expressed profound sadness at Sirikit’s passing, emphasizing her pivotal role as a maternal figure for the country.

Following Queen Sirikit’s demise, King Vajiralongkorn has declared a year of national mourning for the Royal family, with television presenters donning black attire as a mark of respect during news broadcasts.

Queen Sirikit rose to prominence when her husband assumed the throne in 1946, guiding the nation through the aftermath of World War 2. Despite her active public role until 2016, she chose a more secluded life in her later years due to health concerns.

Protected by strict lese majeste laws, Sirikit’s privacy shielded details about her life and the Royal family from public disclosure.
