A mother, Amber Kissell, 45, faced a harrowing ordeal when her health concerns were initially dismissed as haemorrhoids despite exhibiting symptoms like fatigue, bowel issues, weight loss, and blood in her stool. It was only after persistent symptoms and dizziness led her to undergo a colonoscopy that she was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that had spread to her liver and lymph nodes.
Following 12 rounds of chemotherapy, Amber’s tumors vanished, and she has since remained in remission. Recalling her ordeal, Amber, a clinical coordinator, expressed how her fears intensified as she navigated through misdiagnoses and disbelief due to her age. Despite the traumatic experience, she underwent successful treatment, leading to the disappearance of the cancerous growths.
Amber’s journey towards recovery was marked by moments of despair and hope. Initially facing skepticism and delays in diagnosis, she eventually found relief through aggressive chemotherapy that effectively eliminated the cancerous cells. Today, nearly a decade later, Amber continues to thrive in remission, only requiring yearly check-ups with her oncologist to monitor her health.
