Nigel Farage is under renewed pressure to address a situation involving one of his MPs who seemed to equate support for LGBT rights with endorsing Hamas. The statement made by Danny Kruger, a former Tory member who switched to Reform UK, was described as unacceptable by a Labour MP during a session in the Commons.
Kruger’s controversial comment was made public by The Mirror, where he expressed concerns about a potential future in the UK where there would be an alliance in support of LGBT rights. This sparked outrage, with Labour’s Peter Swallow emphasizing the importance of LGBT rights as a core aspect of British values.
Swallow called on fellow MPs to clarify to Kruger and Reform UK that supporting LGBT rights is intrinsic to British values. He criticized Kruger’s comparison of supporting LGBT rights to endorsing Hamas, highlighting the stark differences between the two.
Kruger’s statements have drawn criticism from various quarters, with Labour MP Polly Billington labeling his remarks as divisive and outdated. She expressed concerns about Reform’s focus on stirring up discord and targeting the LGBT community, calling for condemnation from Nigel Farage.
The Mirror reached out to Reform for a response, but Kruger, who is the son of TV personality Prue Leith, reiterated his stance on the potential political landscape in the UK. He voiced apprehensions about a coalition of parties post-election that he described as undesirable, including references to Hamas and LGBT support.
Kruger’s comments have stirred controversy and condemnation, with calls for a clear denouncement of his views and a reaffirmation of the significance of upholding LGBT rights as part of British values.
