A television news journalist, Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock, has been accused of first-degree murder in connection with the tragic stabbing death of her elderly mother. The incident unfolded when authorities arrived at the residence in Wichita, Kansas, to find Mock covered in blood outside the house she shared with her mother, Anita Avers, who was discovered with multiple stab wounds in her bed.
Anita Avers, 80, a former marriage and family therapist, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at 8:26 am. Mock, 47, was found with cuts on her hands and was also treated for undisclosed injuries before being taken into custody. The ex-morning news anchor for Fox 2 News in St. Louis, Missouri, has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held on a $1 million bond at Sedgwick County Jail.
Neighbors recounted the shocking scene, with one witness, Alyssa Castro, stating that Mock approached her vehicle covered in blood, seeking help to call 911 before fleeing the area. The motive behind the incident has not been fully disclosed, with 911 dispatchers mentioning that it was related to self-defense. Mock, who transitioned from a successful journalism career to sales, had a past in media, including roles at Fox 2 and Oklahoma City’s KOKH FOX 25.
Mock’s arrest has shocked many who knew her in the media industry, where she started as a sports reporter before eventually moving into different roles. The case continues to develop, with authorities yet to provide further details on the domestic dispute that led to the tragic incident.
