Parts of the UK are bracing for snowfall this week, accompanied by a drop in temperatures. The Met Office’s weather maps indicate that northern Scotland could experience spells of snow and hail from late Friday night to early Saturday morning. Additionally, there is a possibility of snowfall in Wales and northern England on Thursday, as per WXCharts data sourced from Metdesk.
The likelihood of snow increases over the weekend, with more extensive coverage expected across Scotland, northern England, parts of the eastern coast, and Wales. Northern Ireland might also see some snow on Sunday morning, with additional flurries predicted for Monday.
While the Met Office does not anticipate a significant cold spell, it notes the possibility of isolated wintry showers towards the end of October, particularly over high ground in Scotland. Temperatures are expected to plummet to around -1C in the north Pennine areas of County Durham, Cumbria, and Northumberland between Thursday and Friday. Rural areas in Scotland could face even colder conditions with temperatures as low as -7C or -8C, while parts of rural England may see temperatures of -2C or -3C. Meteorologist Dan Stroud mentioned the likelihood of widespread frost and icy patches on Tuesday morning.
According to Mr. Stroud, higher ground areas in northern England may also witness temporary snow showers. He emphasized that while wintry weather is possible over the weekend, it is typical for this time of year, with temperatures remaining average.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast from October 25 to November 3 suggests a cold start with a northerly flow, leading to showers along coastal regions and possible wintry showers over northern high ground. The following week is expected to bring more changeable conditions with a shift towards a westerly pattern, bringing rain and wind, especially in the north and west, while temperatures are likely to be slightly below normal.
The upcoming days will see morning fog gradually clearing, with frequent showers across England and Wales, and drier conditions in Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Showers are expected to continue into the evening, becoming more confined to western areas, with windy conditions persisting along southern coasts. Tuesday will bring a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers, particularly in the north and west, while Wednesday is predicted to be drier before wet and windy weather sets in on Thursday, leading to colder temperatures by the end of the week.
