According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, not all internet service providers (ISPs) offer the same level of performance. SpeedGo’s recent data reveals that Virgin Media leads in the UK for average download speeds, reaching an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows for downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.
In the rankings, Vodafone follows in second place with average download speeds of 175Mbps, trailed by BT (EE). TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
The average download speeds for major ISPs in the UK are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
Additionally, SpeedGo analyzed upload speeds, crucial for users who frequently send large files or work remotely. Vodafone leads in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, outperforming Virgin Media, which ranks second with 47.2Mbps.
SpeedGo affirmed the results, stating that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps, while Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
