A tragic incident occurred at the Grand Canyon as a 65-year-old man lost his life after slipping off the edge of the iconic landmark. The unfortunate incident took place at Guano Point on the western rim of the canyon within the Hualapai Reservation, as confirmed by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim fell approximately 130 feet down the canyon, prompting a response from the sheriff’s office and assistance from Hualapai Nation technicians. To retrieve the man’s body, a pulley system was set up using ropes and lowered into the canyon on Thursday afternoon.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man was located 130 feet down on a scree pile, and technical rope technicians were instrumental in recovering the body. The recovered body was then conveyed to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further procedures.
The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to various agencies involved in the recovery efforts, including the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security. The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed, and the office extended condolences to his family, urging respect for their privacy during this difficult time.
Notably, this incident follows a similar tragedy in September when a 27-year-old man, identified as Steven Bradley from Federal Heights, Colorado, lost his life at the Grand Canyon National Park. Bradley’s vehicle went over a rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead, and his body was discovered approximately 300 feet below the rim.
